Tea for coffee lovers

Tea for coffee lovers: darker, richer and more interesting cups

If you love coffee, do not start with the weakest tea on the shelf. Start with body, roast, spice or a satisfying ritual.

Do not imitate coffee

Tea does not need to taste like coffee to be satisfying. Look for the same feeling: body, depth, warmth or ritual.

That is why roasted, spiced and darker teas often work better for coffee drinkers than a light standard blend.

Good first choices

Try ripe pu-erh for body, hojicha for roasted softness, lapsang for smoke, Assam for strength or chai for spice.

If you want less caffeine, rooibos or ginger can still feel warm and complete.

Use the right water

Tea gets much better when water temperature matches the style. Green tea likes cooler water; black tea and herbal infusions can handle hotter water.

A temperature kettle is one of the simplest upgrades for better tea at home.

Make it a ritual

Use a glass, mug or small pot you enjoy. Give loose tea enough room and do not squeeze every last drop from a tired bag.

That small ritual is what makes tea feel grown-up next to espresso.
